Hibernating this winter has given me time to reflect on events from last year and allowed me to relax and self-soothe before going full speed ahead in springtime.

Last year was an emotional one for me. I had moments of happiness, frustration, stress, sadness, and being overwhelmed by everything. I'm still processing a lot of this and will write about specifics in the future, but for now, I will share how I deal with not-so-positive emotions and keep showing up for myself and my goals.

When we are upset about something, staying in the mud and letting ourselves sink into our emotions is tempting.

We cannot let these feelings consume us; instead, we must acknowledge them, allow ourselves to feel them, and then move forward for that moment. This quick article provides some three guided prompts to help you transmute negative feelings as they come.

Here are a few of my favorite activities:

  1. Have a timer that allows you to FEEL your emotions for a set amount of time, then immediately follow up with a positive/ mindfulness activity or something you enjoy.

  2. Exercise when you feel upset to release stress, so if you are lying down reading forums about an issue you are dealing with and feeling miserable, get up and do 20 sit-ups, 20 push-ups, or 30 squats. (Usually, doing this gets your heart rate up and distracts you…you might start out crying and end up feeling a release after exerting energy in a different direction)

  3. Write a letter to the other person or job or even describe the situation you are upset with, and be as unfiltered and blunt as you want! You will not be sending this letter out, but it is helping to put pen to paper and write out your words. (Be specific and write out their name and imagine their face)

Leave a comment sharing your experience after following the guided prompts!
